Selling pictures can be easy if a person wants to take the time to actually learn how. There are e-courses, on-line books, stock photograph companies and agency distribution centers that can help you sell your pictures. A person wanting to sell their pictures just needs a good digital camera, internet access and a willingness to do something about selling them. There is also information about licensing, copyright, pricing and laws about selling pictures. You do not have to have your own website to sell your pictures but time and effort are required.
The internet has a wealth of information on how to sell your picture, just do a search and check out the different sites that give you tips and information you will need to know. Once you have sold your first picture you become a published professional. Sometimes all it takes is one photograph that is published over and over every year and you make money.
There is a difference between a stock photography company and an agency distribution. The stock company buys your picture from you and it may be used in a newspaper, magazine, brochure, billboard, or on television. Agency distribution assigns you to a technician that will color correct, crop, scan, ID and watermark and then catalog your picture. The agency will then promote your pictures through web sites, advertising, and other media sources. Pictures handled through an agency distribution usually sell from $300 to $2500 or more per use.
